COLUMBIA — South Carolina football's 2025 spring game gave coach Shane Beamer a chance to see who stepped up in the Aug. 18 contest that capped spring football in Williams-Brice Stadium.
After the spring season, it was the first time real game environment for many.

Team Garnet defeated Team Black 10-7 and it was an injury free game. Here are five takeaways from the game.
LaNorris Sellers barely played, didn't score in 2025 spring game
It's the spring game, it's not the time for starting quarterback LaNorris Sellers to shine or do anything special. The most important thing is he comes out of game healthy and not injured.
That said, he was "sacked" (two-hand touch) twice and threw an interception that was ultimately reviewed and overturned.
Sellars didn't lead his Team Black to scores in the two series he played quarterback. He finished 4-of-7 passing for 53 yards, the longest a 29-yard throw to transfer Jordan Dingle.
Cutter Woods shines in race for South Carolina backup QB spot
The race for the main backup option behind Sellers is wide open.

For Team Black, freshman Cutter Woods threw a 51-yard pass and completed a 75-yard scoring drive his first play of the game. He went 6-of-13 for 120 yards (game-high) and one rushing touchdown in three quarters.
Ohio State transfer QB Air Noland didn't have the best first half. He threw two underthrown passes and almost a third but veteran WR Vandrevius Jacobs made a diving catch backwards to secure the ball. He was then picked off by Myles Norwood. He went 9-of-16 for 67 yards.
Veteran QB/wide receiver Luke Doty played the first two quarter and finished 10-of-12 passing for 85 yards and a touchdown. Redshirt freshman Dante Reno went 1-of-5 for one yard.
Mason Love makes his South Carolina football debut
The Gamecocks lost star punter Kai Kroeger, kicker Alex Herrera and long-time longsnapper Hunter Rogers this offseason.

Beamer was asked on April 15 if it's possible that Love is both the punter and kicker this season, which he didn't fully shut down. He said he doesn't want to hold him back to where he isn't excelling at one because he is doing both.
Love had five punts for a 46.6 yard average. He kicked a 36-yard field goal in the second quarter.
Who replaces Kyle Kennard for South Carolina at edge rusher?
South Carolina greatly benefitted from one season with Kyle Kennard, a transfer edge rusher who came to the Gamecocks from Georgia Tech. He and Dylan Stewart were a strong duo in 2024, with Kennard leading the way with 11.5 sacks.

Senior Bryan Thomas Jr. filled in for Kennard in the Citrus Bowl with Stewart, but the two played on different teams on April 18.
Desmond Umeozulu played well beside Stewart on Team Garnet, getting a sack on Sellers on the first drive of the game. Thomas was with Jatius Geer, a redshirt senior who is in his third year with the program and freshman Jaquavious Dodd. Geer got a sack in the second quarter.
Brian Rowe impresses in South Carolina football debut
Brian Rowe, a freshman wide receiver, led all receivers with five receptions (45-yards).
He had good chemistry with Sellers in the opening quarter.
