Walmart Stock Associate Interview Video

Video Transcript

Interviewer: Please describe your job title and primary duties.
Walmart Stock Associate: Well … I mean, I was a stocker and my main duties were just to go ahead and move items. They have them in pallets on the back of the warehouse. And you’d go ahead and you grab them from the back there at nighttime, and move them out into the main floor, and then you’d go ahead and just put them up on the sides of the different aisles.

Interviewer: What was the work environment like?
Walmart Stock Associate: Work environment … I mean, it was pretty laid back because it was at night, again. So you didn’t have many customers coming in and you’re able to go really ahead and just get your job done. You know? I mean, sometimes they’d have a lot of stuff and you needed to get out there. Like, especially after really busy days like … What is it? After Thanksgiving, Black Friday. There’s always a lot of … kind of Christmas returns and stuff. There’s some times you actually had to go ahead and take stuff off the shelf, and then get another product on to it instead that had already been sold. So it’s kind of weird that way. But-

Interviewer: What was your favorite part about working there?
Walmart Stock Associate: The best part, honestly, was the free Subway. Sometimes they’d go ahead and … you know, if Subway just had too much leftover, they’d go ahead and give it to you. And you also got to really learn a lot, too. Just about how the real world kind of works in a part-time position like that. I mean, it was a long time ago. But it was good. It was a good job.

Interviewer: Please describe the application and interview process.
Walmart Stock Associate: I mean, I just remember I went in and I took a test at a computer. You know, you just sit down there, you go answer a whole bunch of questions. I think there was a … because I also applied for … What was the other position? There was another position I applied for too but I forget what it was. I think it was unloader or something. But you just go ahead, and you sit down, and you just fill out all these forms. It’s pretty easy to go through them. There’s a lot of, “Would you do this,” or “Would you do that,” kind of questions. And you go ahead and you select a on a 1 to 10 kind of scale … or I think with the 1 to 5 scale, which one you wanted to go with. It was pretty straight forward.

Interviewer: What questions did the interviewer ask during the job interview?
Walmart Stock Associate: I mean, he asked about flexibility. That’s really important. They want you to come in and work extra hours if you can. I wasn’t really able to go ahead and do that a whole lot, because I was in college at the time getting my bachelor’s. But they definitely want that. I’m trying to think some other questions that they asked. They asked … I’m trying to remember.
They did ask me one really weird question, actually. He asked me, “What’s your favorite place to go on vacation?” And I told him that I love to go to San Francisco because I absolutely love California. So that was kind of a little bit odder one. But-

Interviewer: How were you notified that you received the job?
Walmart Stock Associate: I think it took about two weeks. They went ahead and they called me up on my phone, but I don’t really answer my phone a lot. So they went ahead and sent me an email, and then I called them back.

Interviewer: What set you apart from other candidates?
Walmart Stock Associate: I think our flexibility, again. They just really needed somebody to go ahead and work kind of odd hours at night on different days. I just happened to fit that.

Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?
Walmart Stock Associate: Again, flexibility. That’s the big thing that they’re looking for. That and the wages aren’t too high, but they want a hard worker. Somebody who’s going to be there for them a lot. I think that those are the two biggest qualities that they were really looking for at the time.
